If you didn’t know yet, Jupiter, FL is a pretty kick-ass destination to do some scuba diving. Deep coral reefs and ghostly shipwrecks see ripping currents from the nearby Gulf Stream. As a result, big ocean animals make frequent appearances as they hop off the Gulf Stream for a snack.

Common Marine Life Seen in Jupiter

1. Lemon Sharks

Lemon sharks are the most commonly sighted shark in Jupiter. Additionally, keep your eyes peeled for an occasional bull shark and resident reef sharks.

2. Goliath Grouper

Even outside of August and September, Jupiter serves as home to many Goliath Grouper. They tend to hang out near the wrecks and inside a cave on Tunnels Reef.

3. Hammerhead Sharks

The only Hammerhead shark I’ve ever seen was in Jupiter during a shark dive with Emerald Charters. We hear reports of more being spotted every day. They’re skittish creatures, so if you see one, consider yourself extremely lucky!

4. Reef Fish

Fish nerds unite in Jupiter to survey every type of reef fish species found in the Western Atlantic. The deep coral reefs are the perfect grounds for the largest abundance of fish life in South Florida.

5. Sea Turtles

Although I’ve never seen one in Jupiter, I have seen Manta Rays just south in Fort Lauderdale. In fact, a report by a local scientist in National Geographic suggests South Florida, specifically between Jupiter and Boynton Beach, serves as a nursery for the endangered species.
