5 Bucket List Dives in Jupiter, FL

Unique occurrences, special locations, and epic marine life. Every scuba diver needs to add these 5 epic dives in Jupiter, FL to their diving bucket list.

Whale sharks in Mexico. Manta rays in Hawaii. And Great White Sharks in Australia. Every diving destination has its bucket-list-worthy dives. You know, those once-in-a-lifetime occurrences you can only witness in that specific location.

Believe it or not, there are quite a few of them within our very own background in South Florida. Specifically, in Jupiter – just north of Palm Beach!

In fact, Jupiter is our favorite place to go scuba diving in South Florida. Better than the Florida Keys. Better than Fort Lauderdale. You name it. And that’s despite living in both of those locations for an extensive time!

So let me say, all of the diving in Jupiter is pretty kick-ass, but these are the few notable excursions you need to add to your bucket list:

1. Jupiter Shark Diving

Who? Emerald Charters or Salty Divers | When? Year-round!

Year-round, sharks are traveling along the nearby Gulf Stream migrating from location to location. In the process, a few hop off the underwater highway to grab a quick snack. That snack? Chum. And lots of it.

Dive operators like Emerald Charters and Salty Divers specialize in shark diving – immersing advanced certified divers in the midst of a shark feeding frenzy. Lemon, sand, dusky, bull and even hammerheads all tend to make frequent appearances.

And for a real treat, book a dive in the late spring to meet a seasonal resident tiger shark named Patrick!

2. Lemon Drops

Who? Jupiter Dive Center | When? Winter months (December – February)

Jupiter Dive Center runs a specialized shark diving trip to two popular dive sites known as Tunnels and Area 51. Per the usual arrangement in Jupiter, you’ll be dropped off in the ripping current and drift along the deep coral reef.

During the winter months (December – February), lemon sharks aggregate to the area and feed amongst the reefs. This is a great way to see some sharks naturally in the reefs without the need for chum in the water!

3. Goliath Grouper Aggregations

Who? Jupiter Dive Center and Kyalami Charters | When? August and September

Every August and September, hundreds of Goliath Grouper aggregate to Jupiter for a weeks-long mating session.

During the aggregation, the shipwrecks of Palm Beach & Jupiter, specifically MG-111 and the Jupiter Wreck Trek, serve as a home for the majority of the mating taking place. The best part? You can soar through the middle of it as you drift on by!

Jupiter Dive Center and Kyalami Charters bring eager divers to these special sites every day when the season comes around!

4. Sawfish Exploration

Who? Jupiter Dive Center | When? January and February

In January and February, it’s not uncommon to spot a Sawfish or two at Julie’s Reef (a deep coral reef in Jupiter). Again, Jupiter Dive Center is known for its prowess in finding the endangered species. They run a handful of trips throughout the month to search for the rare ocean animal.

Of course, the sea is a fickle place and these majestic creatures are rare. Extremely rare. But hey, it’s worth a shot. And Jupiter Dive Center seems to have the most success in finding them! Good luck!

🐟 Learn More About Sawfish Conservation: Conservation of a critically endangered species is a tricky thing. Thankfully, groups in Florida are doing their part to help Smalltooth Sawfish recover before it’s too late!

5. Blue Heron Bridge

Who? Pura Vida Divers or self-guided | When? any day of the year but must be at high tide

Before you crucify me, yes, I realize Blue Heron Bridge is not technically in Jupiter. But hey, if you’re in the Jupiter area searching for things to do, then hell? Why not drive 10 miles south to Riviera Beach for one of the best shore dives in America!?

And Blue Heron Bridge is exactly that. This place is incredible with more biodiversity than any other dive site in South Florida. Eagle rays, seahorses, nurse sharks, spiny lobster, and even an occasional manta ray have all been known to make appearances at the popular shore diving hotspot.

You must go at high tide and you must use a dive flag. So be sure to plan ahead by stopping by Pura Vida Divers for any last-minute gear purchases before you go.
