Best GoPro Scuba Diving Accessories
Whether it’s a cool fish, a wild occurrence, or some mythical creature just swam right by you, we’ve all been there: that perfect moment happened underwater and you weren’t prepared with your GoPro!
Well, be unprepared no more! These are the best GoPro accessories for scuba diving so you’ll never miss another amazing underwater moment!
Note: This list was updated in January, 2021 for the best products available in 2021. GoPro accessories for models between Hero5 to Hero9 will be showcased below.
1. Waterproof Casing
This should be your first and foremost purchase. GoPro depth ratings are good, but they don’t go extremely deep, typically maxing out around 33 feet or 10 meters. Regardless, protecting your camera in shallow depths isn’t such a bad idea either.
These waterproof housings protect your camera up to 200 feet below the surface (although, you shouldn’t be diving that deep anyway as a recreational diver).
Either way, be sure to get something that can handle the pressures of the depths you’ll be exploring!
2. GoPro The Handler Floating Hand Grip
This is our preferred method of handling a GoPro while scuba diving. A few reasons why:
- Easily secured around your wrist or BCD with the durable strap provided. I strap mine around a D-ring on my chest.
- It floats! So it won’t sink to the bottom! Although this may be a bad thing given the diving circumstances (i.e. strong current.)
- With a steady hand you can get outstanding footage.
Cons: without an extremely steady hand, footage may be shaky.
3. Wrist Mount
If you tend to use your hands more while scuba diving, this option may be the best for you. The secure wrist mount allows you to point your hand towards your target and get quality video. Additionally, the footage tends to be a little less shaky than using the handle above.
4. Mounted Mask
Honestly, for scuba diving? I would not recommend the mounted mask. Few reasons:
- You’re likely comfortable with your existing mask.
- Bubbles tend to ascend right in your face and in front of the camera lens, diminishing any video you might be getting!
So why did we include this on our list? For freediving and snorkeling. Most likely, bubbles won’t be inhibiting any view of GoPro vision when you’re doing either of those activities!
5. Dual Handle Stabilizer
Take your GoPro scuba diving video to the next level. A dual handle stabilizer is the best bet for a steady, clear shot on your GoPro. The only downside? Obviously, it requires two hands to operate so your dive must be solely dedicated to capturing that epic shot.
6. Red Filters
If you didn’t know, as you get deeper and deeper underwater you lose colors one by one (due to a lack of light). The first to go? Red. In fact, even at 5 feet below the surface you can notice a lack of red!
Red filters are essential for any semblance of the color wheel underwater. Trust us, your videos are going to pop with vibrance!
NOTE: be sure to match the filter with the correct housing you purchase. Most housing and filters are designed to work only with their brand.
7. GoPro Anti-fog Inserts
I met a guy in Australia who introduced these to me to combat a problem I was consistently having: my GoPro waterproof housing was fogging up underwater. And unlike my mask, baby shampoo wasn’t having much of an effect.
Introduce: the GoPro Anti-fog inserts! These reusable pieces of felt absorb any moisture build up in your housing to keep your GoPro film clear, and fog-free.

8. LED Light
Recently, we met a fellow who was using an attachable LED light that made his underwater pictures absolutely stunning.
Rechargeable batteries and easy attachment convinced us we NEEDED to add it to our list. Check it out:
9. Extendable, Floating Grip
The same gentleman was using an extendable, floating grip with the LED light. I loved the combo – his videos looked absolutely pristine.
10. The Dome
Ever see those incredible above and below shots? Recently, we bought a dome for our GoPro and it does not disappoint!
Your underwater photography while scuba diving, snorkeling, or freediving will take a massive step forward!
The Camera We Use With the GoPro Scuba Diving Accessories
Currently, we haven’t had much need to upgrade from our GoPro Hero6. With 4k capabilities, our dive videos remain high quality for a camera that’s lasted a few years in some extreme conditions. Not to mention, the Hero6 remains considerably cheaper than newer models (although, we’ll probably upgrade after the next release).
UPDATE JANUARY 2021: We updated to a Hero9. 100% worth it. The footage is incredible! Not to mention, we pull just about all of our photos from the video footage we take.
We’re still learning the ins and outs of the camera but it’s a great step into some epic underwater videography!

Hi Laura, would you consider adding my GoPro speargun mount to your GoPro accessory page? It is Speargun Camera Mount for GoPro with Retractable Lanyard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074VZWK8W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PTXD40PB01YHB5QQC8YD
