Underwater Housing + Red Filters

This is absolutely essential. You need underwater housing on your GoPro Hero 9 whenever you’re diving. Why?

1. It provides an extra layer of protection on your camera investment.
2. The max depth rating on the GoPro Hero 9 is around 30 – 40 feet. The housing increases its rating to 196 feet. Even if you’re staying in the shallow range, why risk it?
3. Handy red filters easily attach to the housing to recreate lost light as you descend.

Extra Batteries + Charger

With up to 4k capabilities, the GoPro Hero 9 tends to drain energy. Having multiple batteries is essential on a day filled with diving.

The GoPro Hero 9 comes with one battery but we recommend purchasing GoPro’s brand of battery + charger. I’ll use one battery on one dive and swap it out for a second battery before the second dive starts.

Dual-Hand Stabilizer / Camera Tray

The most stable GoPro mount for scuba diving is a dual-hand stabilizer / camera tray. Using both hands eliminates any accidental sway on the camera as you fixate on marine life.

Not to mention, most serious photographers and videographers use trays as they enable all sorts of attachments like LED lights, floats and attachment strings. It’s a great piece to have for anyone looking to use a GoPro while scuba diving.

LED Lights

The deeper the darker. It’s not that hard to figure out – light dissipates as you descend during your dive. You lose color and some sight.

LED Lights are a great addition to any GoPro set up to illuminate the dark and restore color lost. Unfortunately, many camera lights can get pricey. Until we discovered these LED lights, that is – handy addition for an affordable price.

Floaty Handle

The floaty handle is possibly the most iconic GoPro mount for scuba diving and snorkeling. It’s simple, effective and easy to use.

Dive with one hand free. Both hands free. Or no hands free! With the floaty handle and its adjustable wrist strap…anything is possible!

Extendable Floating Grip

Another useful item for your GoPro Hero 9 while scuba diving is a floating extendable grip handle. GoPro’s downfall is its lack of zooming capabilities and this extendable grip will help lengthen your range – getting your camera closer to marine life.

With short armed mounts, it’s difficult to get up close to marine life without spooking them. This will make it slightly easier, although there’s no guarantee they won’t get spooked with a big ole camera in their face!

Waterproof Carrying Case

The GoPro Hero 9 usually comes with a carrying case, but it’s good to have a waterproof one for extra batteries, cords, chargers and portable batteries.

Antifog Inserts

I’ve used these in the past with good success. They’re useful to have in case you have to open your housing on the dive boat (to change a battery, for example). So we recommend carrying a small package of them with you when you dive.
