While the hike is not strenuous, it involves some steep sections, slick rockfaces, stream wading, and uneven terrain. You’ll want to wear appropriate footwear that’s able to get wet.

The trailhead for Charco El Pilon is located just outside the town of San German, Puerto Rico. To get there, hop off PR-2 and head north on PR-361 or PR-362. The trailhead is at the end of PR-362 before the road is blocked off. Park atop the dirt road and begin hiking toward the river.

Overall, the hike is rated moderate in difficulty and should take most hikers around 45 minutes to complete one way.

One thing to note is that the trail can be slippery in places, especially after rainfall. Additionally, some parts of the trek require scrambling over rocks and crossing streams, so it’s important to wear appropriate footwear during your hike.
